Santa Fe's Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis Assisi
18 x 12 Soft Pastel
A few years ago, I spent several days exploring the landmarks near Santa Fe’s Old Town Square. At the time, I was residing at the La Fonda Hotel only to step out one evening to discover this Basilica. The image was mesmerizing as the sun’s golden light caused the structure to soar endlessly against the deep ultramarine sky.

There is no call for cool shadows in this scene. The day was exceptionally hot and the Acacia blooms seemed to thrive in the sun.

Santa Fe High
13.5 x 10.5
The narrow sidewalk bordering the hotel made its walls seem to climb forever as I craned my neck to look at its upper-most regions one last time. The lamp post seemed to hover like its protector. Several days at Santa Fe's lovely La Fonda Hotel gave me a chance to enjoy all the near-by landmarks that surrounded the town square. Life simply slows down for visitors if they rise early to savor the offerings of the itinerant musicians, wander across the square for an inspiring visit to the Georgia O'Keefe Museum, window shop at the many art galleries, and receive a warm welcome in the lovely old cathedral nearest the hotel.
